Warning as snow and ice forecast

THE North East has received yet another snow warning with more wintry weather set to hit the region this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a 13-hour Yellow alert for snow and ice tomorrow.

The warning covers the entire region, including Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland, Sunderland and County Durham.

It will come into force at 2am on Sunday and remain in place until 3pm, with forecasters warning that “a spell of snow will lead to some disruption”.

The Met Office alert advises that there could be travel delays on the roads, with snowfall bringing the potential for some vehicles and passengers to be left stranded.

Rail and air travel could also see delays and cancellations, as could bus services with the possibility of road closures due to the hazardous weather.
