UKRAINE marked 34 years of independence at the weekend, deep into the fourth year of its war with Russia.

It’s difficult to see how peace can be reached in the near future, given it is clear that Vladimir Putin will not want to rest until he has rolled back those 34 years and absorbed Ukraine into Russia.
