Pharmacist ready to take on GNR after cancer fight
The Journal
|September 04, 2025
COUNTY Durham pharmacist whose world was turned upside down when she discovered a lump "the size of an ostrich egg" on her leg is set to take on the Great North Run this weekend.

Claire Humphries, 62, had been looking forward to family holidays in India and South America when she discovered the lump last September.
The keen runner and cyclist was massaging her leg when she felt the lump near her groin. It was quickly diagnosed as a myxoid liposarcoma, of which there are just 72 cases in the UK each year.
Medics at the Freeman Hospital in Heaton told Claire, from Durham, to cancel the holidays she had been due to go on with husband Graeme and their two sons.
She said: "The hardest thing was telling my two sons, that was heartbreaking. It felt like I'd let people down. The holiday to India with my husband and the trip to South America with my sister had to be cancelled."
