Ofsted tells faith school to boost lessons for girls

A WEST End school has been told to improve after inspectors found issues including that some lessons were “not ambitious enough” for pupils.

The Bahr Academy is an independent faith school catering for Muslim girls aged between 11 and 16.

An inspection by the education regulator Ofsted found that the Tyneside school - where annual fees hit £4,400 - “requires improvement”. While inspectors found the school meets formal “independent school standards”, there are areas where it needs to improve.

These include issues with record-keeping in relation to safeguarding, staff training and the appropriateness of the curriculum.

In the published report - relating to an inspection which took place between July 8 and July 10 this year - the inspectors wrote: “Record-keeping and communication related to safeguarding are not strong enough.
