NHS chiefs commit to build hospital by 2030

THE timeline for the construction of a new hospital in County Durham is set to be finalised following funding delays.

How the new hospital should look

The new Shotley Bridge Community Hospital, which will include a 16-bed inpatient rehabilitation ward and an urgent treatment centre, is slated for completion by 2030.

Despite receiving planning permission in 2023, the project in Consett has been beset by delays and escalating costs, with initial groundwork commencing in July ahead of future construction works.

NHS chiefs have reiterated their commitment to delivering the new community hospital by the 2030 deadline, following the approval of funding in September.
