Newcastle to kick off with tricky trip to Villa

NEWCASTLE United have been handed a tough start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, which will also see the long-awaited return of the Tyne-Wear derby.

The campaign opens with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, August 16 (12.30pm kick-off).

The Magpies were beaten 4-1 at Villa Park last term in the corresponding fixture, but finished ahead of Unai Emery's side on goal difference to snatch a Champions League spot.

Eddie Howe's opening home game a week later could not be much trickier with an encounter against Liverpool at St James’ Park to face the defending champions.

The month of August is then concluded with an away game at Elland Road to face newly-promoted Leeds United.
