Man arrested by police after nine-hour stand-off

A STAND-OFF on a hotel roof lasted almost nine hours and resulted in a busy Newcastle road being cordoned off.

Police attended Osborne Road in Jesmond late on Thursday night to carry out an arrest.
However, once they were on the scene it was reported that a man climbed on to a roof of the Cairn Hotel, where he remained until 8.25 yesterday morning. A police cordon was put in place between Queens Road and Reid Park Road for the duration of the incident.
