HMS Calliope will be granted Gateshead Council's highest civil honour at a special ceremony next week.

The maritime base, home to around 100 reservists, is set to receive the Freeman of the Borough of Gateshead in recognition of its services to the Royal Navy Reserve and the wider community.
The base, led by Commander D A King, had been previously awarded the Roll of Honorary Freeman of the City of Newcastle in 1985.
