Firm fears trade deal with US will force closure

A North East fuel plant has warned it could close because of the UK-US trade deal.

Redcar-based Ensus has raised concerns over its future after the trade agreement allowed the US to export bioethanol without tariffs. The company said “crisis talks” took place with Ministers in May, and its chairman urged the Government to find a solution.

Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen has written to the Prime Minister urging a package to support the industry through what he describes as a “transition period”.
