Cyber crimes on the rise

CYBER crimes including death threats and online stalking are on the rise, according to new figures from the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Total cases of cyber crime have also risen over the past year.

Councillors from across the North East were informed at a Police and Crime panel that there had been an increase in total cyber crimes between September 2024 and September 2025.

A rise from 7,795 to 9,662, or 21%.

However a major bulk of these, 1,068, were classed as harassment offences including death threats, threats of serious harm, and stalking without fear.
