Councillor quits days after election

A REFORM UK councillor who won a seat in County Durham at the election 12 days ago has resigned after failing to declare his employment with the council.
Andrew Kilburn was elected as county councillor for Benfieldside with 1,007 votes, stepped down just over a week after the local elections. He had secured victory alongside Sandra Grindle, with the party snatching one seat from Labour and another from an independent.
Mr Kilburn was one of 65 Reform councillors to be elected as the party took control of Durham County Council in one of the biggest swings seen in local politics in recent years.
Following his resignation, Mr Kilburn’s profile has been taken down from the council's website. A by-election will now be held to find a replacement councillor for the ward, details of which are expected to be announced soon.
