Controversial solar farm plan set for green light

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a Gateshead solar farm are set to be given the green light next week.
The proposals have stirred up local anger, with a campaign group calling for the scheme to be scrapped.
Next Wednesday, the Gateshead Council’s planning and development committee will meet to consider solar firm Exafen’s plans to construct a renewable energy facility, spanning 30 fields between Chopwell and Greenside. If approved, the site could power 18,800 homes and see a 22,500-tonne fall in CO2 emissions.
