Company looking at options over winding up order

A award-winning North East construction company is exploring options after being hit with a winding up order by HMRC.

Former North East Company of the Year, Merit, which is based in Cramlington, Northumberland, is believed to be working with business advisors on possible refinancing after a number of overdue bills put it in difficulty.

The company has faced a number of winding up orders this year from other companies which have been resolved, but is now facing similar action from the tax authority.

HMRC’s reasons for the court action have so far not been revealed but officials say they act to protect taxpayers’ money. The organisation tends to only issue court orders when other options are exhausted.
