SUNDERLAND'S LAST VISIT TO STADIUM SAW THEM PROMOTED TO CHAMPIONSHIP

- By CALLUM JACQUES

SUNDERLAND is set to take on Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium in the Championship play-off final this weekend.

It will be the Black Cats' first visit to the national stadium since their 2022 triumph over Wycombe Wanderers in the League One play-off final.

Three years since that day, how much has Sunderland's team changed and how many of the Black Cats starting XI from that day remain at the club?

We take a look at the players who fired Sunderland into the Championship and look at where they are now.

GK: Anthony Patterson - Sunderland

The 25-year-old shot stopper continues to play between the sticks for the Black Cats. Patterson started both legs of Sunderland's semi-final against Coventry City.

He made three saves across the two legs and has now amassed over 160 games for his boyhood club.

RB: Lynden Gooch - free agent

The USA international will be looking for a new club in the summer after spending the last two seasons at Stoke City. Gooch's name wasn't included on Stoke's retained list.

Gooch joined the Potters following his departure from Sunderland after making 246 appearances for the Black Cats.

CB: Bailey Wright - Lion City Sailors

The Australian international joined the Singapore side Lion City Sailors after four seasons on Wearside. Wright has played 59 times for the Sailors over the past two seasons and scored six times.
