Bringing a taste of Italy to the North East for a century

A FAMILY cafe which is known for its unique Italian ice cream has celebrated operating for 100 years.

Arrighi’s Crescent Cafe was opened in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, in 1925 by Carlo and Marianna Arrighi. The couple, from the Barga area of Tuscany, Italy, began serving customers their Fior di Latte ice cream - a family recipe which has since been passed down the generations.

A century later, the cafe is being run by their great-grandchildren - Stefania Bonadies, 39, and her brother Francesco Bonadies, 33 - and they still sell their famous ice cream.

They receive support from their mum Milvia Bonadies, 75, and aunts Grazia Bonadies, 78, and Francesca Rech, 72, who all grew up in the business.
