September 01, 2025

PLANS for enhanced facilities and new job opportunities at a Sunderland food production facility have been lodged with council development chiefs.

The application was for the Bernard Matthews factory on Leechmere East Industrial Estate.

Renowned for its variety of 'bootiful' poultry products, Bernard Matthews Foods, is seeking permission for “production and warehousing extensions to [its] existing food production facility”.

The plans also encompass the “demolition of some elements of the existing buildings” plus access for new parking for 50 cars.
