Bantams are swept aside as Magpies get off to solid start in defence of cup

Eyebrows were raised at the weekend when Bruno was benched, but he put in a near faultless perfor mance at St James' Park and looked like a man back in form.

Howe's Samba boys turned on the style against Bradford City to ensure Newcastle march on in the Carabao Cup, with Bruno having his best game of the season and Joelinton grabbing a brace to help sink the Bantams.

Neither had played a single second on the South Coast but looked refreshed and lively as autumn began to set in on Tyneside.

Donning a long-sleeved shirt, Bruno was everywhere against the League One leaders and had a hand in three goals, while Joelinton was a real menace for the visitors.

Two strikes from William Osula were also a highlight as the Magpies ramped up the goal attempts and enjoyed 77% possession.
