Sri Lanka's value-added tea now makes up 58% of all shipments

This marks a significant jump from the 52% share recorded in the same period in 2024, indicating a successful industry pivot towards exporting higher-margin products like tea bags and instant tea instead of bulk tea. This strategic move was a key driver behind a substantial 10.38 million kilogram (M/Kgs) increase in cumulative exports. Total shipments for the January-July period reached 150.85 M/Kgs, up from 140.47 M/Kgs in 2024.
