'Sleep Divorce'

In a world that often romanticises intimacy, the idea of couples sleeping in separate beds—or even separate rooms-may seem counterintuitive.

But for a growing number of partners, the path to a healthier, happier relationship may not lie in shared sheets, but in what is now popularly referred to as a "sleep divorce."

Far from being a sign of emotional estrangement or marital trouble, sleep divorce is the conscious decision by couples to sleep apart in order to improve their sleep quality and overall well-being. Whether due to snoring, differing sleep schedules, restlessness, or temperature preferences, many couples are discovering that separate sleeping arrangements can lead to better rest and in some cases, a better relationship.

A good night’s sleep is essential to physical health, emotional stability, and cognitive functioning. Yet, many people struggle to get the recommended 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, often because of their partner's sleep habits. One might be a light sleeper while the other snores loudly. One may enjoy watching TV late into the night, while the other needs complete darkness and silence. Over time, such disturbances can lead to chronic sleep deprivation, irritability, and even resentment.
