Care home ordered to clean up its act
The Irvine Herald
|June 24, 2026
An Ayrshire care home has been panned for issues surrounding cleanliness and hygiene.
The Care Inspectorate also described Buckreddan Care Centre's practice at infection prevention and control as ‘‘inconsistent’’ and ‘‘at times poor’’.
The criticism comes from a fresh inspection of the Kilwinning home earlier this month with the findings now published.
The shock report outlines ‘‘widespread concerns’’ about cleanliness, hygiene and storage which placed people at ‘‘increased risk’’ of infection and ‘‘compromised their dignity.’’
An extract from the report states: ‘‘We identified significant and widespread concerns in relation to infection prevention and control which impacted on people's health, safety and dignity.
‘‘While some basic measures were in place, these were not sufficient to ensure safe practice across the service.
‘‘We observed poor standards of cleanliness in a number of areas. There were strong and persistent malodours, particularly in bedrooms and communal areas. Equipment such as commodes, shower chairs and mattresses were not consistently clean, and in some cases bedding and furnishings were soiled or stained.’’
