Supermarket plan for site of old bus garage

A SUPERMARKET giant has submitted plans to turn a former bus garage into a new store.

Lidl wants to build the store, including a drive-thru coffee shop, at the Yorkshire Rider Ltd bus garage at Skircoat Road, Halifax.

The plan for the site close to the Shay Stadium includes 140 car park spaces and landscaping alongside a 2,202 sq m store.

Recently, a Calderdale councillor expressed outrage that the buildings had been sold by operator First Bus.

Clr Geraldine Carter (Con, Brighouse) said the buildings had once been the property of the old Halifax Borough Council and its successor transport authority.
