'Prison sentence of 30 years of grief' for teenager's family

Juliet Rimer - sister of murder victim Lindsay

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Lindsay Rimer - 31 years after the teenager's death.

Lindsay, 13, disappeared on the evening of November 7, 1994, in Hebden Bridge.

She was last seen at 10.22pm at her local SPAR buying cornflakes and alarm bells started to ring the next morning when she did not turn up for her paper round.

Lindsay was missing for five months until her body was discovered weighed down by a large rock in the Rochdale Canal, around two miles from the town centre.

A postmortem concluded she had died from strangulation although police stated there were no signs of sexual assault and she was still wearing the same clothes she vanished in.

West Yorkshire Police have said a man was arrested at a prison where he is serving a sentence for other offences yesterday morning. He is currently being quizzed by detectives.

A spokesperson for the force said: “He is being interviewed over the course of today and tomorrow and is expected to be bailed and returned to prison while enquiries continue.
