THREE crashes caused major delays for drivers and led to traffic chaos across the city yesterday, while emergency services also dealt with people who had suffered serious injury during the collisions.

- By HERALD REPORTERS

A multi-vehicle crash on Tavistock Road caused major delays from around 11am, with all lanes closed southbound while emergency services were at the scene.

A witness told The Herald that it looked like a car crashed into the back of another vehicle, while tow trucks later removed two vehicles from the scene.

Pictures from the scene showed long tailbacks on Tavistock Road, and emergency services at the scene.

Traffic travelling south on Tavis-tock Road had to be diverted through Crownhill Village, which subsequently became jammed.

A reporter at the scene said: “Traffic is being diverted through Crownhill village. It’s absolute traffic jam chaos.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We were called with reports of a three-vehicle collision in Tavistock Road, Plymouth, at around 11.05am today [Thursday 15 May].
