Speaking truth in the face of complicity

I BELIEVE it is our duty to speak clearly and truthfully—even when doing so is uncomfortable.

Today, we must confront a devastating truth: the UK and US governments are complicit in enabling the unfolding atrocities in Gaza.

The daily images we see - flattened neighbourhoods, hospitals in ruins, thousands of children dead - are not accidental by-products of war. They are the direct consequences of sustained military, and therefore political support, provided to the Israeli government by our own UK government. Arms sales continue, albeit under a reduced set of licenses which came into effect 11 months after the war began. The UK government has voted against, abstained and vetoed UN ceasefire resolutions more than they have voted in favour since the war begun. And those calling for peace are dismissed or demonised. This is not neutrality. This is complicity.
