Service to mark 80th anniversary of VJ Day

A SERVICE and march marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day is being held tomorrow organised by the Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) Families of Plymouth.

The memorial service in the Minster Church of St Andrews on Royal Parade, starting at 1pm, will be followed by the march to the Crowne Plaza hotel, where a military salute will take place.

A celebration event is then being held at the hotel from 4pm-8.30pm with live entertainment featuring music representing the 1940s.

The events have been organised with funds raised by the FEPOW Families, who have held VJ Day events every year since 1950, where they lay wreaths and plant crosses at the Rowan Tree of Peace, outside the Minster Church of St Andrew, to remember loved ones.
