Means-tested student maintenance grants to be brought back

STUDENTS from low-income households are set to benefit from the return of targeted, means-tested maintenance grants for higher education - at college or University.

Grants will be funded by a levy on income from international student fees.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson announced the change at the Labour Party Conference, with the grants expected to open up opportunities for young people and adults studying key courses.

Maintenance grants were abolished in 2016 by the Conservative Government.
