Is it time for a spending cap on all football clubs?
The Herald
|January 28, 2025
THE local fraternity of loyal support for Plymouth Argyle might well be feeling a tad fragile currently.
-
A variety of in-house aspects might account for that. At the end of the day, the teams competing within the Championship have seriously stronger finance backing than Argyle. It can't all be put down to our chairman's relatively limited back pocket!
Argyle are a proud club, with history of several ups and downs. "We" are not a Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City or Spurs. Every club, from Premier League to the local league side, has dedicated, loyal supporters. They are the spine on which the team operates.
The actual players - those who physically compete on the pitch - will determine the level at which that club operates.
The vast majority of the clubs within the Championship, Leagues One and Two, and below, are 'feeder' clubs for those currently in the Premier League.
The individual player, naturally, from personal ambition or family commitments, wants to operate at the highest level possible, due to personal contract terms (income).
Where I would wish to invite genuine comment from the reader is: Is there a serious case for limiting the ceiling of purchasing power on the value of an import and that player's both value and wage?
Mr Haaland has recently signed a 10-year contract with Manchester City at £500,000 PER WEEK!
