JO CLARKE ON AN ARTIST'S VISION OF THE SEA'S FUTURE

Imaginary sea creature

WHAT will the waters of Plymouth Sound look like in the future? In the wake of a global climate catastrophe, what creatures will survive and how they will adapt? If you visit The Box over the next few weeks, you will see this intriguing sculpture on display. It's titled 'hybrida composita' and it's the work of the artist Sonya Dyer.

It was created as part of a unique three-year programme called 20/20 which was led by the Decolonising Arts Institute at London's University of the Arts (UAL).

The Box was one of 20 partners which participated from 2021 to 2024. The aim was to match an artist with each of the 20 organisations and commission them to produce new work. Funding support came from the Freelands Foundation, Arts Council England, and UAL.
