DREDGING GIVEN AS REASON SHIP MOVED AHEAD OF REPORTED SALE
HMS Albion has been moved ahead of a reported sale
(LURON C WRIGHT)
SCHEDULED dredging has been given as the reason for an amphibious warship, reportedly set to be sold to a foreign navy, being unexpectedly removed from its berth.
HMS Albion once described as the ‘Swiss Army knife’ of the Royal Navy has been in a state of ‘lower readiness’ since 2017.
In January 2024 the government said that it would not be scrapped ahead of schedule, but would be mothballed.
Specialist defence news site UKdefencejournal reported last month that HMS Albion was being retained at HMNB Devonport to support preparations for the sale of HMS Bulwark to Brazil.
