Historic pub to reopen after a huge overhaul

ONE of Plymouth's most historic landmark pubs is looking forward to a bright new future after undergoing a vast overhaul.

Work is well underway at The Vine, on Stonehouse peninsula, with the aim of having it complete and open by next spring.

Workers are busy constructing a new second floor on top of the building, established in 1834 and just a stone’s throw from the slipway for the Cremyll ferry to Cornwall, making it the first-and-last pub in that part of Devon.

And inside the pub, on the corner of Admiral’s Hard and Strand Street, has been gutted and will be completely remodelled - but keeping important heritage features such as original stone walls and bringing back wooden windows.

The team behind the successful transformation of the nearby Victualling Office Tavern (VOT) is responsible for the ambitious project, after buying The Vine for £360,000 last year.
