Helping young people achieve their potential
The Herald
|October 17, 2025
RECENTLY I was both privileged and delighted to be in Birmingham as Plymouth celebrated a significant achievement in inclusive education and employment at the prestigious NASEN (National Advice on Special Educational Needs) Awards ceremony.
-
Plymouth was shortlisted in two categories and proudly took home the coveted Co-Production of the Year Award for its innovative Supported Internships Programme, a collaborative initiative delivered in partnership with Discovery College.
This marks the second national award Plymouth's Supported Internships have received, cementing the city's reputation as one of the UK's most forward-thinking local authorities when it comes to helping young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) into employment.
A supported internship is a structured, targeted programme designed to help young people with SEND make a successful transition from education into paid work.
