Fire 'brought our community closer'

RESIDENTS IN SHOCK BUT 'SPIRIT STRONG'

RESIDENTS in Sherford have said that although they have been left shocked at a fire at a block of flats which is being investigated as arson, it has also 'brought the community together'.

The fire broke out on Friday, September 19 in the stairwell at a block of flats in Aquila Drive, and saw 28 people rescued, and 10 taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

The blaze, which is believed to have been started deliberately, saw residents having to be evacuated in the middle of the night, and has left families without access to their homes.

The community spirit is strong in Sherford, locals say - and although the emergency incident has left residents shocked, they've rallied round to help each other after the fire.
