Competition launched to find best 'local pub'
The Herald
|March 14, 2025
A PLYMOUTH MP has launched a contest to find the best pub in her constituency. Rebecca Smith, Tory MP for South West Devon, hopes the competition will remind people of all the great pubs they have on their doorsteps and encourage people to “support their local”.
She said the idea is the latest way she is championing small businesses in her constituency. Ms Smith said: “I am excited to announce the launch of my Best Local Pub 2025 competition, celebrating all the amazing pubs right across South West Devon.”
She accused the Labour Government of bringing in a “pub tax” which will inflict a threefold increase in business rates to £6,912 for 860 of Devon's pubs. She also criticised hikes to Employers’ National Insurance.
