AN NHS worker is appealing to the people of Plymouth for help as he carries out a coastal walk, fundraising for baby loss charity Tommy’s.
Nick Collins, from Southend-on-Sea set off from Whitstable in Kent on September 15 on a journey which has been both ‘financially and physically’ challenging.
Nick, aged 51, who has taken two years extended leave from the NHS - had planned to stay in a tent for most of the journey. But he has had to adapt his schedule due to a medical condition which left him needing to rest. He has slept in hotels where possible and had to visit six different hospitals as a result of his medical condition.
He is now appealing to the people of Plymouth for help with accommodation to give his body a rest as he looks to complete his journey.
He said: “I started off with a backpack which was about 80lb in weight and was compressing my rib cage. It’s inflamed my ribcage and so I had to switch over to a fishing trolley. I put everything in the fishing trolley and was carrying it like a barrow.
