Three people die at care home in suspected gas poisoning

Three people have been found dead at a care home in Dorset and seven more taken to hospital in a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

Dozens of other vulnerable residents were evacuated from the Gainsborough care home in Swanage to a nearby church while places in other care homes were found for them. Ch Supt Heather Dixey, from Dorset police, said carbon monoxide poisoning was the "primary line of inquiry" for the investigation, and there was believed to be no wider risk to the public.

Police were called at 7.16am yesterday after three people were found dead at the 48-bed care home.

Police said the families of those who had died had been informed and the coroner had been notified.
