Thirty killed and 80,000 evacuated as flooding hits Beijing

More than 30 people were killed by heavy rain and flooding in Beijing and a neighboring region, state media reported yesterday, while tens of thousands more were evacuated.
As of midnight on Monday, 28 people had died in Miyun district and two others in Yanqing district, according to the state broadcaster, CCTV. Both areas are on the outskirts of the city. A landslide in neighboring Hebei province killed four people, with eight others still missing.
Heavy rain began at the weekend and intensified in Beijing and surrounding provinces on Monday, with some parts of the capital receiving up to 543.4mm of rain, Xinhua said.
