Storm Amy cuts power to 21,000 homes and disrupts rail services

Rail services were still being disrupted yesterday in the aftermath of Storm Amy while about 21,000 homes had no power.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said its engineers were working in "challenging" conditions after the storm brought winds of up to 96mph to the Highlands and more than 3in of rain in 24 hours.
It said it had reconnected 67,139 properties by lunchtime yesterday but another 21,000 were still cut off.
