Risk of Russian attacks on undersea cables likely to rise

The risk of Russia- and China-backed attacks on undersea cables carrying international internet traffic is likely to rise, a new report says.
Recorded Future, a US-based cybersecurity company, noted the nine incidents that had taken place in the Baltic Sea and off the coast of Taiwan in 2024 and 2025.
The report said that while accidents remained the probable cause of most undersea cable disruption, the Baltic and Taiwan incidents pointed to increased malicious activity from Russia and China.
