King's call for compassion takes TV top spot with 7m viewers

King Charles’s annual address was the most-watched TV programme in the UK on Christmas Day.
Nearly 7 million viewers tuned in to either the BBC, ITV, Sky News or GB News to watch Charles deliver his Christmas message, which was recorded in Westminster Abbey. The king praised the “great diversity of our communities” and used his address to urge the nation to “cherish the values of compassion and reconciliation”.
Gavin and Stacey won the festive TV ratings battle last year, with the show’s final farewell becoming the most watched Christmas Day programme in 16 years, with an average 12.3 million viewers.
