Yarm residents against plans for 495 homes

STRONG OPPOSITION TO DEVELOPER'S 11-YEAR PLAN

- By GARETH LIGHTFOOT

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for almost 500 homes in Yarm despite numerous pleas from residents: “Don’t build them”.

Gladman Developments Ltd has applied to Stockton Council for planning permission to build up to 495 homes near Green Lane, Yarm, with public open space, landscaping, a drainage system and other infrastructure.

The plan is only in outline form at the moment, with a more detailed scheme to follow if it is approved.

However, numerous homeowners have already given their views, in no uncertain terms, in responses to the developer's consultation which overwhelmingly oppose the proposals, in an area already facing several proposed developments.

Asked what changes could be made, blunt responses ranged from “look elsewhere” and “don’t build them” to “shelve it’, “cancel it and not build anymore” “do not proceed’ “it needs to be scrapped’ “withdraw it, enough already!” and “what are you smoking? 495 houses?”

One respondent said Yarm was “already deluged with new homes... this is immoral.”
