Improving Boro claim cup victory

MICK Mulhern believes Middlesbrough Women's League Cup victory over Rugby Borough highlights their improvements this season, as they advanced to the last 16 of the competition.

In another tight encounter with their National League Premier Division North rivals, captain Millie Bell scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute as Boro advanced in the game at Stockton.

It's an encouraging sign for the Boro Women's boss, coming just seven weeks after the two sides shared a goalless draw in the league at the same venue.

Reflecting after the cup win, Mulhern said: “We're really happy with that. We knew that they're a very strong side who are good at what they do. But we knew what was coming and we set up to deal with it, and did so well. Then we did our part, particularly in the second half. I thought we deserved the win.
