AN ex-councillor has suggested she could seek intervention from the Local Government Ombudsman in a long-running dispute about grass cutting at a community meadow.

Frustration grows over grass cutting

Anne Watts said she was facing a “brick wall of ignorance” from Redcar and Cleveland Council over the small meadow, which is between Oakley Road and Silverton Road in Guisborough.

Ms Watts said she wanted the grass to be cut from April to assist the growing of wildflowers. But it was only being cut annually at the end of the summer season and only then after repeated requests. She also said grass cuttings were often not collected, while footpaths in the area were missed out altogether.

Ms Watts said: “I have sent reminder after reminder, but the situation does not change. We [volunteers] did all the prep work for the meadow and I personally have bought the [wildflower] seeds each year.”
