Former striker in court for drink-driving

A FORMER Middlesbrough striker was found to be more than twice the legal alcohol limit when he was pulled over at the wheel of his Mercedes late at night.

Leroy Lita, who claims he currently earns £30,000 a year working as a Sunderland Academy coach, was stopped on a road in Sunderland after officers grew concerned about the “manner of his driving”.

A court heard that police approached the 41-year-old and opted to breathalyse him after detecting the smell of alcohol on his breath and noticing his speech was slurred.

The father-of-two was subsequently arrested after failing the roadside breath test, later recording a reading of 74mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - more than double the legal limit of 35mcg.
