MOTION IS BACKED WITH UNANIMOUS SUPPORT

- By GARETH LIGHTFOOT

STOCKTON Council’s leaders will be asked to record and live-stream meetings from their new headquarters.

The proposal to film meetings was made “to provide the greatest level of accessibility and inclusivity for residents” at a full council meeting. It received unanimous support by all councillors.

The council is now holding its meetings at its new headquarters at Dunedin House in Thornaby, some of which have been well attended by members of the public, including a cabinet meeting which heard discussion of controversial plans to move businesses in The Shambles, proposals which were since abandoned.

Full council meetings which were previously held at Stockton Baptist Church are now held in the Dunedin House council chamber. Councillor Niall Innes, Conservative member for Hartburn, proposed a motion, saying: “We're now in a new council chamber. Within that we've got two very fancy cameras that now sit here monitoring us, at a cost of over £9,000 to the taxpayer.
