Calling for crime order to tackle 'street parties'

EXECUTIVE members have discussed ways to combat antisocial behaviour in Middlesbrough neighbourhoods.

- By DANIEL HODGSON

A resident's question to the top team of councillors asked about public space protection orders (PSPOs) and the possibility of one being pinned on North Ormesby, as he argued it could be a way of tackling "regular street parties".

There has been a PSPO in place in the TS1 postcode area since 2019 and it is designed to address issues like begging, street drinking, drug taking and littering.

The original order was extended for three more years in 2022, and expanded to cover bin rummaging and 'chugging' or stopping people in the street to ask for charity donations.

Last month, views were sought about the potential extension of Middlesbrough's PSPO that's now been in force for six years.
