Herd will go grazing at nature reserve to help restore habitats
The Galloway News
|May 29, 2025
A small herd of five Highland cows and three fell ponies have been introduced to the Tarras Valley at Langholm.
They will help with restoring and improving habitats on the nature reserve.
Jenny Barlow, reserve manager, said: “We have had so many people ask us when they will see cows on the hill again and it's nice to be finally welcoming some cattle back onto the reserve.
“The animals are owned by farmers Faith and David Garvey who have lots of experience with conservation grazing.
“We are delighted to be working with them to trial how we can diversify and expand our grazing on the reserve in the future with animals like cattle and ponies as well as our sheep.
