Gougeon coming to Galloway

Scotland's Rural Affairs Secretary is set to visit Galloway.

Mairi Gougeon recently met with Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson to discuss the future after telling the Scottish Parliament the Galloway National Park process would not continue.

That followed NatureScot's report into a public consultation, which expressed a lack of local support for the idea.

It is believed national park status could have resulted in £10 million a year in Scottish Government support for Galloway. Mr Carson described the talks as "positive", with Ms Gougeon saying she would come to the area in July.
