Political dynasties in Northern Luzon

People may not accord the BBM administration with some measure of credibility on the current anti-dynasty legislation because the Marcoses of Ilocos Norte, like the Singsons of Ilocos Sur, the Ortegas of La Union and many family dynasties in Pangasinan, are the best examples of political dynasties.

- Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez

How can the cause of problems become the source of the solution?

Compared to Cebu, Ilocandia is still solid with a few cracks, especially with the disengagement of Chavit Singson from the Marcoses. In Cebu, old dynasties are vanishing while new ones are emerging. The Duranos of the northeast, Kintanars of the southeast, Cuencos of the southwest and in Central Cebu, the Osmeñas, Ramas, and Gullases are trying to survive challenges. The Garcias have suffered a major setback but are poised to stage a comeback in 2028. The north is no longer solid but still formidable.

In Ilocos Norte, the Marcoses of BBM's Partido Federal dominated. The governor is Cecilia Marcos, the vice governor is Matthew Marcos Manotoc, son of Senator Imee. The 1st District congressman is Sandro Araneta Marcos, favorite son of BBM. The 2nd District congressman is Angelo Marcos Barba. In Ilocos Sur, the governor is Eric Singson, the vice governor is Ryan Singson. The 1st District representative is Ronald Singson, for the 2nd District is Kristine Singson Meehan. Eric Singson is one of the Provincial Board members. These families are virtual owners and possessors of LGUs as if these are family corporations.
