Mayor urged: Protect hiking trails

Barangay Tisa has appealed to Mayor Nestor Archival to safeguard some of Cebu City's most popular hiking trails, warning that the continued expansion of Monterrazas de Cebu could eliminate public pathways and displace vendors at the well-known Starbuk's stop.

In a letter dated January 28, 2026, Tisa Barangay Captain Bernardo Lapina Jr. urged City Hall to convene a multi-sectoral dialogue involving developers, property owners, and barangay leaders from Tisa, Buhisan, Sapangdaku, Guadalupe, and Pamutan to address the issue.

The appeal cited growing concern over reported closures along the trail leading to Starbuk's, a site that has become a landmark for Cebu's hiking community and a regular destination for hundreds of residents each week.

Monterrazas de Cebu, a hillside development of 8990 Holdings, has long been the subject of controversy. Following massive flooding triggered by Typhoon Tino last year, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) flagged the project for alleged unpermitted water discharge and tree-cutting.
