A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted west of Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte is forecast to bring widespread rains and thunderstorms over parts of Visayas, Mindanao, and Southern Luzon today, Sunday, May 4.
As of yesterday, the LPA was located 235 kilometers off the western coast of Dipolog. Weather models indicate that it will move across Palawan by tonight and exit into the West Philippine Sea by early Monday, where it is expected to gradually dissipate. Despite its weakening state, the system will continue to affect weather patterns across the country over the next 24 hours.
Rains are expected across the Visayas, Mindanao, Quezon, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, and Batangas, prompting authorities to urge caution, particularly in landslideand flood-prone areas.
Localized thunderstorms may lead to flash floods and hazardous travel conditions in low-lying communities.
